The Australian Narrowcast Radio Association was formed in 2004 to serve the interests of all radio narrowcasters. Members provide a diverse range of services, including racing, religion, country music, dance music, tourist and other information, community service, jazz and even relaxation techniques!

ANRA members are classified according to whether they operate high power open narrowcast (HPON) services or low power open narrowcast (LPON) services. Current membership represents more than 160 HPON licences and more than 550 LPON licences.

Membership is open to any holder of a narrowcast transmitter licence who agrees to be bound by ANRA’s constitution. Members communicate with each other through teleconferences and newsletters. Policy is implemented by an Executive Committee elected by the members.

The Executive Committee comprises:

Max Carter, President (2KY Broadcasters)
Jeff Shaw (Celestial Industries)
Ian Munro (Western Visitor Radio)
Angy Nacson (Raw FM)
Van Richards-Smith (Unitab)
Ian Worby (United Christian Broadcasters)

The association is administered by a General Manager, Des Foster.

ANRA activities include government relations, technical and licensing issues, copyright, codes of practice, advertising sales promotion and audience measurement.

Although narrowcasters are subject to a lighter regulatory regime than commercial or community broadcasters, they nevertheless are bound by Codes of Practice developed in consultation with ACMA and included in ACMA’s Register of codes of practice.
